This is my first year at FAU, and as a new university
student I had to manage stress and new activities that I have never done
before. At the beginning, I must admit that it was really challenging learn
something that I haven’t done before. I remember that in my first class I was
very optimistic because I knew that I had to discover new abilities that I have
never used before, and at the begging maybe I would be the worse student at my
class, but at that time, that was OK.
But stress just appear when I realised that I got abilities
and that I was a good student in my class. That’s when I start pushing myself
to get good grades, so I got stress and frustrated when things didn’t go like I
want it.
At the beginning, I didn’t know how to face it, but
then a friend told me that there was breathing exercises that could help me to
calm down, and it worked. Doing a sport helped me too, and made me thing in
other stuff not related with workshop. Finally, friends were very important to go
through first year, because they advised me and made me feel like I wasn’t
alone.
For new students, just don’t
push yourself too hard because this is new for all of us, and maybe you will
feel like you don’t have abilities the first two months, but you must hold on a
little bit more because you are going to be great too. And remember that you
are in FAU for a reason, and that is because you are a good student and you are
capable of doing all you want.
